At age 11, renowned hair stylist Robert Lee Rooks realized that he had an uncanny ability to create bold, beautiful looks. At such a young age, Robert had been given the gift of artistry. Using hair and make-up as his tools, and the faces and scalps of the willing as his canvases, there was no stopping the young Mr. Rooks.
The youngest of 6 kids, Robert’s imagination was vast and his creativity relentless. While other 11 year-olds were busy finding much to do about nothing, Robert was busy honing his skills on his young nieces. They would become his dolls and mannequins of choice.
A true native of Atlanta, Georgia, Robert took his artistry and interest in hair and make-up straight to high school, becoming the first ever Mr. Cosmetology at Tri-Cities High School. Soon after, Robert’s hard work and skill were rewarded with a full scholarship to attend Arnold-Padrick’s University of Cosmetology. This was just the beginning of Robert’s shining star.
Robert has had the opportunity to work with some of the best in the industry. He has tapped into several industries such as film and print while managing to still be accessible and relatable to the everyday woman.
When asked about his contribution to such creating some of Atlanta’s most timeless looks, Robert gives his audience insight to his inspirations sharing, “When it comes to the perfect look, leave no stone unturned. From the most unlikely of sources comes the most divine inspiration. I use everything from nature, shapes, color, and cartoons, to abstracts like my ideas of the realm of fantasy and the beauty of love.”
Robert’s blazing passion; vibrant energy, pivot-point training, and intricate eye for hair design are truly gifts from God. Licensed since 2002, Robert specializes in hair extensions, precession cuts, natural ionic pressing, weaves, weave- maintenance and endless make-up techniques. Surely this is a trail blazer whose star is still burning across our galaxy. All you have to do is look to the skies that is where you will not only find Robert’s vision and creativity, but the man himself as well.
